Unfurling in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers, pastry cream, beeswax and toasted almonds, framed by light reduction, the 2021 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille is medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with chalky structuring extract and a long, saline finish. This is always the insiders' choice chez Rapet, and the 2020 is no exception.

Aromas of pear, citrus oil, crushed chalk and white flowers introduce the 2019 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille, a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated wine with incisive acids and fine depth at the core. As ever, it's the insider's choice chez Rapet, punching above its weight in terms of aging potential and incipient complexity.

The 2018 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille is showing superbly, unfurling in the glass with notes of dried white flowers, citrus oil, fresh peach and subtle hints of praline. Medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, it's concentrated and tensile, concluding with a long, mineral finish. I've previously described this bottling as the insider's choice chez Rapet, and the 2018 certainly merits that title.

From one hectare of vines planted in the 1960s, the 2017 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille is the insider's choice chez Rapet, and a wine I purchased for my own cellar. Offering up aromas of ripe citrus fruit, acacia honey, wet stones and crisp yellow apple, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and beautifully precise, with superb energy, good concentration and a long, mineral finish. Though it isn't as structured or muscular as the Corton-Charlemagne, it nips at its heels.
