The Poggio Antico 2021 Rosso di Montalcino offers dark cherry and blackberry over a mid-weight presentation and a velvety texture. The wine feels ripe and saturated. The approach works overall, but the alcohol content, measured here at 15.5%, really is too much. It makes drinking more than a few glasses undesirable and is not suited to this entry-level category. This is a 13,000-bottle release.

The Poggio Antico 2019 Rosso di Montalcino is spun tight with lots of cherry, cassis and tart fruit. Those lively primary tones are framed by light touches of spice and crushed stone. What stands out in the 2019 vintage is the extra concentration and richness of the mouthfeel. Production is 13,000 bottles.
