Redcurrants and wild strawberries followed by intense herbal and green notes of tomato leaves and thyme. Creamy and round-textured followed by firm and structured tannins. Excellent length of finish with a hint of citrus blossom in the aftertaste. Pure and crunchy. Better after 2029.

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino offers a full and generous personality with layers of dark fruit, cola, rosemary and balsam herb. This is a medium to full-bodied Sangiovese with lots of ripe fruit, soft tannins and rich texture. Like many of the Brunellos from this vintage, this wine offers an accessible side that makes it easy to drink without waiting too much longer. Production is 40,000 bottles.

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows some ripe, hot-vintage fruit with baked cherry and strawberry confit. There is a softness to the wine, which is enhanced by bigger fruit weight and fiber and more of those dark fruit characteristics. Sangiovese always counters with fresh acidity, and this element helps to balance out this wine on the mid-weight finish. This is an accessible, near-term Brunello. 50,000 bottles are hitting the market now.

This wine sources its fruit from a moderately high parcel that measures 13 hectares and is perched 400 meters in elevation. The soils here are thin and drain well, with a mix of calcareous and schistous terrain. The Tenuta di Sesta 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is fermented with ambient yeasts in stainless steel and later ages in various-sized botte made with Slavonian oak. This very natural and traditional approach allows for those expressive vintage aromas to shine bright. This 2016 Brunello shows linear fruit with forest berry and wild cherry. You get all of that here with tight tannins, cola and mineral. Some 40,000 bottles were made, and this wine delivers a classic and straightforward interpretation of this terrific vintage.

Tenuta di Sesta's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a velvety and sultry wine that boasts classic lines and generous fruit aromas. Released five years after the harvest, this expression of Sangiovese shows aged and open-knit characteristics with dried currant, forest floor, earth and plenty of blue flower. The wine yields softly integrated tannins with a pretty, mid-weight approach to the finish. You might try a traditional Tuscan dish of pappardelle alla lepre for this one. An ample 35,000 bottles were made.
