The 2003 Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Cent’Anni 1907 comes together beautifully in the glass with masses of dark fruit tar, smoke, earthiness and licorice. This is an especially dark, brooding wine but the tannins are impeccably balanced and there is just enough inner sweetness to suggest that further elegance will develop in bottle. Like all of the estate’s wines, the massive style may not be for every palate. The Cent’Anni 1907 should pair nicely with full-bodied meat dishes and robust cheeses. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018.
Trabucchi makes intense, fruit-forward wines from biologically-certified vineyards in Illasi, one of the valleys that emerges on the eastern side of the Valpolicella zone.
