This wine is dark ruby-colored and has intense and compelling aromas of black cherries, spices, and stones. It is a concentrated, medium-to-full-bodied wine that offers a mouthful of beautifully ripened and extracted red and black fruits as well as traces of metallic flavors. It is well-structured but neither astringent nor tannic, and should age effortlessly. Had I not been the one with the corkscrew, I could have been convinced that it had been crafted by Maurice Ecard of Savigny-Les-Beaune fame! This superb wine, particularly in light of the difficulties faced by Oregon producers in 1995, is a testimony to Vlossak's tremendous skills.
Regrettably, I have been unable to visit St. Innocent. My schedules appear to conflict with Mark Vlossak's, who is the highly-talented winemaker at this outstanding winery as well as at Panther Creek. This recently purchased bottle of his 1995 Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir once again drove home the point that Vlossak is crafting some of Oregon's finest pinots.
