Although Altesino is renowned for its superb Brunello di Montelcino, they also produce excellent proprietary reds from various blends. The 1993 Palazzo Altesi (300 cases produced from 100% Sangiovese Grosso) is my favorite of three 1993 offerings. The wine possesses fabulous fruit, a Burgundian-like, expansive, chewy mid-palate, and sexy, voluptuous, oak and floral-tinged, red and black fruit flavors. Soft tannin adds to the sumptuousness of this delicious wine. It is ideal for drinking now and over the next 5-7 years.
