The top offering, from one of the appellation’s finest hillside parcels, is the 2001 Condrieu Clos Boucher. In spite of the fact that this wine is 100% barrel-fermented and aged in 60% new oak, it reveals little evidence of wood in its mineral and honeysuckle-dominated bouquet. This full-bodied, gorgeous Condrieu should age nicely for 2-3 years. Abundant quantities of apricot jam and tropical fruit characteristics as well as striking minerality provide a great glass of full-bodied, dry white wine.
The 2001 white wines possess good aromatics, medium body, and zesty, refreshing acidity. They are not big, voluminous examples (as some 2000s can be), but are delicious whites destined to be drunk early in life.
