The 2011 Saint Joseph is a hidden gem. Offering up mineral and gunpowder-like qualities, with plenty of olive, bacon, blackberry and currant aromas emerging with time in the glass, this medium to full-bodied effort has juicy acidity, good concentration and enough tannin to keep it drinking nicely for upwards of a decade. It should be a serious value and is worth seeking out.
Proprietor Stephane Robert is knocking it out of the park from his tiny cellar located in Saint Peray. Producing up to three Cornas in any given vintage, he also releases four whites from Saint Peray and a serious Saint Joseph.
