The 2007 Finca Espolla is composed of 60% Monastrell and 40% Syrah aged for 15 months in new French oak. Purple-colored, it displays an enticing bouquet of underbrush, incense, spice box, blueberry, and blackberry. On the palate it has excellent volume, plenty of spicy black fruit flavors, and enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. This balanced, lengthy effort will offer a drinking window extending from 2011 to 2019.
Castillo Perelada is producing excellent wines from its vineyards in Emporda in the extreme northeast corner of Spain near the French border.
