Castillo Perelada’s purple-colored 2008 Finca Espolla is sourced from slaty and acidic soil with high density planting. The wine is a blend of 60% Monastrell and 40% Syrah aged 16 months in new French oak. Aromas of pain grille, graphite, smoky black fruits, soy, and lavender inform the nose of this medium to full-bodied effort. In the glass it reveals a smooth texture, spicy black cherry and blueberry flavors, and a hint of game. Deep and concentrated, this structured effort will evolve for 1-2 years and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2020.
