Pale amber in color, the 1969 Hill of Grace nose is just a little leathery and horsey with a fading core of fruit cake, toasted almonds, dried cherries and a whiff of dried thyme. The palate is tired, with a low level of powdery tannins and crisp acid supporting the little remaining flavors of stewed tea laced with dried fruit and a finish that is a little tart. Somewhat past its best, it nonetheless provides a valid record of this difficult year. Drink up.
