The most forward, easiest to drink is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape. Pleasant sweet cherry and berry notes emerge from this supple-textured, round, generously endowed, fruit-laden Chateauneuf. Medium to full-bodied and pure, it is best consumed during its first decade of life. The Melia family produces three separate cuvees. The traditional cuvee, aged in a combination of tank, foudre, and barrique, is a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault. The Fondateurs sees the same aging regime, but is composed of 55% Grenache and 45% Mourvedre. Made from 100% Grenache, Le Puy Rolland comes from the sandy, rocky soils of that lieu-dit in Chateauneuf du Pape. These three 2007s all appear to be potentially outstanding.Importers: Vino Terra, Denver, CO, Dee Vine Wines, San Francisco, CA; tel. (415) 398-3838, and Blue Coast Wines, New York, NY; tel.
