The two new releases, the 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 1990 Merlot, are authoritatively flavored wines that are bursting with personality and complexity. The 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon is a dense, enormously rich wine, with a huge, spicy, tobacco, black-cherry, herb, and oak-scented nose, great intensity and saturation of flavor, as well as a chewy, marvelously well-balanced palate. Given the size of this broad-shouldered wine, it should be at its best by the mid-nineties and last through much of the first decade of the next century.
