Satta’s 2004 Bolgheri Superiore I Castagni is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah and 10% Teroldego that spent 10 months in French oak followed by 18 months in bottle. It is very representative of this part of Maremma in its full-bodied, supple expression of earthiness, smoke, dark fruit and toasted oak.Ample and expansive on the palate, this lush wine offers outstanding length and terrific balance. Ideally, it might offer a little more refinement and a less overt, obvious style. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
Michele Satta is a small artisan producer based in Castagneto Carducci, in Maremma. At his best Satta is capable of making exciting wines, but he can also be inconsistent, particularly at the low end.
