The two 1991s were interesting to taste and compare with the riper, richer 1990 vintage. I thought the 1991 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a Frati to be excellent, offering a spicy, earthy, cedary, black-cherry, and licorice-scented nose, powerful cherry fruit flavors, and a medium-bodied finish. It also displays fine depth and moderate tannin and acidity. This wine, which is already drinkable, should age nicely for another 7-8 years. Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
