The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a’Frati is a beautifully ripe, succulent Chianti endowed with gorgeous richness in its dark red fruit. Black cherries, menthol and spices are some of the aromas and flavors that emerge from the Poggio a’Frati, but what is most impressive is the wine’s balance and superb drinkability. Clean mineral notes frame the exquisite finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016. This is a flat-out great set of wines from Rocca di Castagnoli. The estate releases its wines a year or more later than most, so these are current vintages in the market. Pricing remains exceedingly fair considering the quality of what is in the bottle.
