Opening to a light, mid-weight appearance, the 2017 Riviera Ligure di Ponente Rossese (aged only in stainless steel) is a perfumed and delicate red wine with subtle, elegantly restrained appeal. The bouquet offers aromas of wild rose, white cherry and cassis. In terms of mouthfeel, the wine is short, lean and simple. I'd also venture that this is one of those rare red wines that could be served a degree or two lower and with Mediterranean or freshwater fish. The winds and sea breezes of Liguria have safeguarded against the hot conditions of this vintage, and this wine is zesty and fresh as a result. Some 12,000 bottles were made.
