The 1999 Morellino di Scansano displays a dark ruby color and a sweet, straightforward, exuberant, black cherry and berry character with hints of tar and earth. Plump and uncomplex, it is ideal for drinking over the next 2-3 years. Shrewd value-seekers should seek out wines from the Morellino di Scansano appellation as this is increasingly becoming a source for tasty as well as, for the moment, underpriced reds. The American importer for Fattoria Le Pupille has recently changed and I am unaware of their current representative.
