The 2001 Serramonte, the first wine to be released, comes from vineyards in the northern part of Calabria, near the border with Campania and the grapes are already quite different from those utilized on the region’s southern coast. A blend of Montepulciano and Magliocco, the wine is a bright ruby in color, spicy and light, jammy on the nose, full and of good richness on the palate with well defined flavors of ripe plums, raspberries, and cinnamon. Only a bit of acidity on the tail, which could easily become less perceptible with time, keeps the score from going higher. Drink: 2005-2012.
