Mikulski’s 2007 Meursault – incorporating lots from Chaumes de Narvaux, Meix Chavaux, and lower elevations, all assembled only a few weeks before bottling – displays bright, pungent personality, with prominent lemon zest, white pepper, and chalk, but ripe peach, pear, and nut oils emerging as it opens up to the air. This is relatively firm in feel, and displays energy and pungent, chalky grip. Chalky, alkaline suggestions in the empty glass convey a sense of mother rock that corresponds (whether or not causally!) with some of the sites that inform this. I would plan on enjoying if over the next 3-4 years.
Francois Mikulski began picking his 2007s the August 31 and harvest lasted a full two weeks. He performed “a bit more severe settling than normal” of solid matter to insure healthy musts, and while the vinous results are sometimes a bit texturally spare, as a group these wines boast consistently impressive distinctiveness of personality, energy, refreshment, and grip.
