It is because of vintages such as 1991 and 1992 that Christine Fabre-Valette was one of my "winemakers of the year" in 1993. In both of these tough years, Troplong-Mondot has produced a successful wine. In a disastrous vintage for Pomerol and St.-Emilion, the 1991 Troplong-Mondot stands out for its medium dark ruby color, and spicy, ripe nose of cassis, vanillin, licorice, and toast. With elegant, medium-bodied, attractive, rich flavors, this supple, well-endowed wine should drink well for 4-6 years.
