The 2011 Art is pure Mencía from south-facing vineyards on slate soil that was fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 18 month in French oak barrels. Compared with the 2012 version of this same wine, the 2011 feels riper and headier, with aromas of plums, damsons and hints of dates with plenty of sweet spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with abundant, grainy and slightly dusty tannins that require powerful food and/or more time in bottle. It was bottled unfiltered into 12,500 bottles.
