Considerably better is the less expensive 2004 Reserva, made in a more traditional style. It is composed of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo aged for 30 months in American oak. Aromas of cedar, tobacco, mineral, leather, Asian spices, and assorted black fruits are alluring. On the palate the wine is elegant, has outstanding grip and volume, and a lengthy, pure finish. It admirably demonstrates why 2004 is considered a great vintage in Rioja and all this for a price that is literally a give-away. This is one to buy by the case!. This $16 wine will provide immense satisfaction for another 8-10 years.
