As mentioned in the producer introduction, one-third of the 2016 Volnay Village consists of whatever could be rescued from the three premier crus this year. As such, it has a powerful and ambitious bouquet with feisty blackberry and blueberry fruit laced with spices, perhaps just showing a little VA here. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a healthy dash of cracked black pepper and a penetrating finish. There is something on the aftertaste reminiscent of padrón peppers, discrete but certainly there. Hopefully this will calm down once in bottle.
