Although expensive, the 1998 "1780" (the year this company was founded) is still an excellent value. A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Tempranillo, and 25% Grenache, it boasts a deep purple color as well as a sweet nose of vanillin, toast, black cherries, currants, and leather. It is ripe, medium to full-bodied, and elegant, with sweet glycerin on the attack, great follow through, and wonderful purity, depth, and length. Moderate tannin in the finish suggests another 1-3 years of cellaring will be beneficial. It should last for two decades.
