The 2007 “1780” is a blend of 50% Cabernet, 15% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 10% Merlot and 10% Syrah aged in new American and French oak for 24 months. It has a very ripe, slightly smudged bouquet with macerated red cherries, sloes and a touch of kirsch with moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, supple tannins although the new oak blurs the fruit profile. The finish is ripe and flavoursome but lacking some complexity and tension. Drink now-2017.
