The 2005 1780 (named for the date of the founding of the estate) is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Tempranillo, and 15% Garnacha aged for 12 months in new French and American oak. Purple-colored, the aromatics include notes of iodine, mineral, slate, black currant, and blackberry. This leads to a firm wine in which hints of menthol/eucalyptus emerge. The finish is slightly compact although 2-3 years of further bottle aging may bring greater harmony.
