Maculan’s 2004 Breganze Torcolato (85% Vespaiola, 10% Garganega 5% Tocai) a medium yellow, offers high-toned aromatics along with burnt sugar, pineapple, mango, mint, honey and spices on a delicate, soft-textured frame. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2009. From top to bottom the most impressive line-up I tasted from Veneto were the wines of Fausto Maculan. Maculan remains best known for his sweet wines, but readers will also want to check out some of his table wines from the superb 2004 vintage. Has a good nose, with ripe citrus, flowers and hints of fresh ginger, vanilla and sour cream. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with a long, spicy citrus finish that turns salty.
