The 2010 Montecucco Sangiovese bursts from the glass with plums, blueberries, cloves, spices and mint. Juicy, expressive and vibrant, the 2010 captures the personality of the vintage in spades. The 2010 includes some Merlot and Syrah, which naturally detract from its varietal character but add body. This opulent, full-bodied wine will drink well right out of the gate. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.
Proprietor Paolo Bianchini suffered the same fate as many of his colleagues in 2008, which is to say, significant crop loss due to hail in both April and August. Still, this is a solid set of new releases. Bianchini has decided to wait one more year before releasing his flagship Brunello Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso Santa Caterina d’Oro.
