The 2002 The Twentyeight Road Mourvedre emerges from one of the oldest Mourvedre vineyards in South Australia (planted in 1918). Consistently a top-class Bandol look-alike, the 2002 reveals great concentration in addition to wonderful aromas of new saddle leather, roasted meats, black fruits, earth, and spice. Almost primordial in its power and potency, with surprisingly civilized tannin, this is a big, back-strapping, mouthfilling, full-throttle example of old vine Mourvedre. Give it 1-2 years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 10-12. Importer: Rob McDonald, Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 258-9552
