Opening to a medium garnet color, the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is both lighter and thinner in style compared to its peers. There are some evolved notes here of licorice and smoke but mostly the quality of fruit feels very ripe. Jammy notes appear beyond the ashy-mineral tones with blackberry and blackcurrant. There's also a note of charred nut or toast that stands out. In the mouth, the wine feels polished, compressed and earthy. Compared to Collosorbo's past Riservas, the 2009 needs more time to open.
