The 1976 Volnay Les Champans has held up well over the course of three decades, even if it is not one of the finest of the vintage. The nose is quite beautiful - soft and sumptuous, with a smudge summer fruit, mint and grass clippings. The palate is balanced although not complex. There is a touch of piquancy toward the iron-tinged finish that is abrupt but clean. This rustic and slightly bretty Volnay continues to emit pleasure, but I would not keep it in the cellar for too much longer. Tasted September 2013.
These 2011s were all tasted with Guillaume d'Angerville at the domaine in Volnay.
