This is an outstanding effort from Allegrini. Made by the Ripassa method of running the unfermented Valpolicella juice across the pressings and pomace of the Amarone, this is a muscular, dense ruby/purple-colored wine with a robust, peppery, truffle, dried herb, earthy, blackberry-scented nose. Full-bodied yet sweet (from fruit extract, not sugar), with a velvety-textured attack, this large-scaled, delicious, round, low acid, mouthfilling dry red should drink well for 5-7 years. Don't miss it!This winery has made enormous qualitative progress over the last three or four years, a fact clearly evidenced by this wine.A Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel.
