This bottle is nearly impossible to find today. The very rare 1982 Le Pergole Torte is a classic wine that delivers amazing intensity and staying power. Marino Manetti characterizes the 1980 vintage as "cold but soft" and this vintage as "warm but hard." That makes sense when you consider the fragrant, floral and fruity elements of the bouquet. Those tones are immediate, and they pull you in with enthusiasm. Yet the mouthfeel is firm and focused. This is a complete wine, with expressive honey, balsam herb, rosemary, laurel leaf, crème de cassis and cherry liqueur. Rosewood and sandalwood also make brief appearances, as do saline or salty tones. I could venture that this is one of the best-preserved expressions of Sangiovese from the 1982 vintage in existence today.
