A classic, blockbuster Barossa Valley Shiraz, the 1999 Black Guts was aged 30 months in a combination of new and old French wood. Its opaque purple color is followed by an explosive bouquet of melted licorice, camphor, creme de cassis, and blackberry liqueur. There is tremendous glycerin, a voluptuous, full-bodied mid-section, and a mouth-coating finish. This is big stuff, so those with European wine sensitivities should stay clear. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
