Made with organic fruit, Cornalin clusters are harvested on a steep terrace at 650 meters above sea level. The Grosjean 2016 Vallée d'Aoste Cornalin Vigne Rovettaz offers a saturated and velvety appearance that is typical of this little-known indigenous grape found in this part of Northern Italy and in Switzerland. The bouquet reveals lots of dark, plummy fruit, but there is good uptick from lifted aromas of crushed white pepper and mulling spice. The tannins are soft, but there is some natural bitterness or sourness to the fruit. This is a mid-weight red with enough fiber and texture to pair with some liver crostini.
