The winery’s top bottling, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Salco Evoluzione, is made from a special Prugnolo Gentile clone the estate isolated in its vineyards in the early 1990s. The 2001 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Salco Evoluzione is the richest and weightiest of these Vini Nobili. It displays notable concentration on the palate in its expression of earthiness, leather, herbs and sweet dark fruit. Initially big and powerful in its personality, it turned more and more delicate with air. Today it comes across as slightly rustic, but another year or two in the bottle should help smooth some of the edges. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019.
