This is the second time that I have tasted the 1955 Trotanoy and it remains a quite brilliant Pomerol that is probably destined to always be overshadowed by the lauded 1961. It replicated the aromatics of the previous bottle with blackberry, red cherries, pine needles and here, a hint of stewed black tea. What is amazing is the detail on display, almost crystalline. The palate has exquisite poise, still so fresh and detailed, though there is a tarry tincture that develops in the glass. Stoic, regal and stern, yet deeply impressive, this is a Trotanoy with a steely gaze that demands respect. Respect duly given. Tasted September 2015.
