Tasted at the Trotanoy dinner at Sketch in London. Bottled by Graf Lecocq, this 1962 Trotanoy is one of those torturous bottles that shows a hint of TCA on the nose, but somehow it ebbs away with a combination of patience and aeration. The aromas begin to poke their heads from under the covers: iodine, seaweed (kelp), brine...a real marine influence on the aromatics. Returning after 30 minutes it is more diffuse, the sea influence now receding to reveal tertiary notes mingling with fireside hearth. The palate is very well balanced with tobacco infused mixture of red and black fruit that are rustic but very attractive. It fades a little towards the finish, but it remains a lovely 1962 Pomerol. Unlike the 1955 however, I would not leave it much longer. Tasted September 2012.
