The 2005 Roero Riserva Mombeltramo is a decidedly darker and firm style of Roero than the Trinita – think of the Trinita and the Mombeltramo as roughly analogous to Asili and Rabaja in Barbaresco. The masculine Mombeltramo reveals superb density and richness in its fruit, along with subtle notes of French oak, spices, menthol and new leather. This is a very fine effort from Malvira, in fact, it may be the best wine I have ever tasted from this estate. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025.
This is an exceptional set of releases from Malvira, one of the leading producers in the Roero district. The estate excels with its Arneis and Roero bottlings, all of which are well worth discovering.
