The terrific 2001 appears to be slightly superior to the potentially outstanding 2000. A deep plum/ruby color is accompanied by a delectable bouquet of melted licorice, black currants, smoke, and a notion of chocolate. This expressive, medium-bodied effort boasts sweet tannin, luscious fruit, and a nicely textured finish. Moreover, this up and coming St.-Emilion still sells for a reasonable price. In an effort to improve the quality at this estate, proprietor Philippe Casteja has instituted a more severe selection process in the vineyard as well as the cellars. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2014.
