The 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves is lovely, unwinding in the glass with aromas of exotic spices, rose petals, blood orange and sweet red berries. Medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, with powdery tannins, succulent acids and a long, saline finish, it's the most complete of Croix's premiers crus.

The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves has fulfilled the promise it showed from barrel, filling the glass with scents of sweet wild berries, blood orange, musk and other spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with a sumptuous core of fruit that's underpinned by sweet, powdery tannins and lively acids, it concludes with a long, saline finish.

Derived from a prime mid-slope parcel adjacent to Bouchard's Vigne de l'Infant Jésus, Croix's 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves unwinds in the glass with notions of summer fruits, orange rind, raw cocoa and violets. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's ample and satiny, with an elegantly muscular profile and a long, saline finish.

The 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves reveals notes of small wild berries, raw cocoa, candied peel, potpourri and cinnamon, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's built around fine-grained but chalky tannins, concluding with a long and pure finish.

The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Greves has an intense and quite powerful bouquet with copious crushed strawberry, raspberry, vanilla and blueberry scents, a little more "lush" than David Croix's other 2015s. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. It feels tightly wound at the moment, though the acidity is very well judged and there is candied notes on the sweet finish, hints of fig and date on the aftertaste. Very fine—perhaps one for those who like a riper style of Pinot Noir.
