The 2018 Syrah Rodney's Vineyard has a medium ruby-purple color and aromas of blackberries and blackcurrants with accents of tobacco, iodine and leather. The palate is medium-bodied, grainy and fresh with earth-laced fruits and a spicy finish.

Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the 2016 Syrah Rodney's Vineyard gives up sage and fried herbs with wild blackberries, notions of bitter chocolate and bacon fat, olive and blue flower perfume plus cassis aromas. Full-bodied, it fills the mouth with savory, dark ripe fruits framed by firm, chewy tannins and just enough freshness.

The 2015 Syrah Rodney's Vineyard opens in the glass with a brooding bouquet of smoked meats, warm spices, ripe berry fruit and cocoa. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and chewy, carrying a hefty payload of tannin and extract, but with sufficient acidity and intensity of flavor that I wouldn't bet against it coming around with some time in the cellar.

The 2014 Syrah Rodney's Vineyard has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and nose of tar, dried herbs and asphalt with a core of blackberry pie, prunes and spice cake, plus a waft of mocha. The palate is medium to full-bodied and packed with spicy black fruits and earthy layers, supported by rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and peppery.

Made in a ripe, decadent style, the 2013 Syrah Rodney’s Vineyard gives up lots of blackberry, blueberry, barbecue smoke and pepper. Incorporating 3% Viognier and aged 20 months in 43% new French oak, this beauty has some baby fat to shed, but should have a decade of overall longevity.
