A wine with its own cult following, the Franz Haas 2018 Manna (closed in a screw cap bottle) is a complicated blend of 40% Riesling, 20% Chardonnay, 15% Gewürztraminer, 15% Kerner and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. What you notice first are the pretty fragrances that peel back to reveal tangerine skin, dried apple, pear, saffron, citrus and tropical fruit. I could go on and on. Give the wine time to breathe, and a touch of natural rubber or petroleum (from the Riesling I assume) begins to appear, while pretty mineral or chalky tones also come into focus. With a creamy texture, this 2018 vintage shows lasting intensity. A solid 50,000 bottles were produced.
