The 2009 Valpolicella Superiore Morandina opens with super ripe red cherries, flowers and mint. Hints of sweet herbs, licorice and fennel develop in the glass, adding complexity and nuance. The style is understated and nuanced; in other words perfect for drinking over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Pra does so many things well its hard to know where to start. The 2008 Valpolicella Superiore Morandina offers up juicy red cherries, spices and French oak on a mid-weight, structured frame. In 2008 there doesn't seem to be quite enough fruit to balance the oak. Otherwise, this is a very pretty wine from Pra'. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014. Pra' is one my favorite producers in Veneto. The 2007 Valpolicella Superiore Morandina emerges from the glass with intense candied cherries, kirsch, dried roses and rosemary. This deceptively mid-weight Valpolicella shows lovely persistence on the palate and a clean, resonating finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. The estate’s 2006 Valpolicella Superiore Morandina is a tasty, mid-weight wine with floral notes that mingle with ripe red berries. This delicate, feminine Valpolicella reveals unusual elegance and gorgeous inner perfume that continues to emerge with time in the glass. The finish is long, subtle and refined.
