Opening to a darkly saturated ruby color, the 2016 Etna Rosso shows a rich and nicely contoured bouquet with black currant, sour cherry and blue flower. These are textbook aromas for an Etna red, as are those volcanic tones of scorched earth and campfire ash. I'm not sure where the fruit comes from, but this wine establishes a classic Etna taste profile nonetheless. There is some dryness or lingering astringency in terms of the tannins that may or may not fully soften.
