The 2005 Barberasco Bricco Asili possesses an enveloping, soft-textured core of red fruit, menthol, flowers and sweet French oak. The wine offers good persistence on the palate, but the layered, multi-dimensional personality of past vintages is missing. This comes across as a rather simple version of this wine. You’ll find elegance and finesse here thanks to the wine’s aromas of pencil shaving, black fruit and oak. Those are the cornerstone fragrances and they are beautifully outlined by red currant, licorice and road tar. It’s a sophisticated and masculine wine with rich vanilla and oak shadings in the background that add density and staying power.
