Caviola’s 2009 Barbera d’Alba Brichet is a fabulous wine graced with layers of expressive, plump fruit and an engaging, seductive personality. At first rather extroverted, the Brichet turns increasingly more elegant on the palate, until the lasting impression is one of endless silkiness and textural finesse. This is all about the elusive elegance that is typical of Piedmont’s finest reds. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Giuseppe Caviola is best known as the consulting oenologist to a number of top estates in Piedmont, but the wines he makes at his winery in Dogliani are equally deserving of attention.
