A successful wine for the vintage, the 2005 Gigondas exhibits a dense ruby/plum color as well as a sweet bouquet of crushed rocks, black cherries, pepper, and earth. Medium to full-bodied with good acidity, it has the vintage’s tough tannin, and excellent to outstanding concentration. Give it 1-2 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following decade. This bastion of traditionalism is a good source of reasonably priced wines. They also make some Rasteau and Chateauneuf du Pape, but Domaine St.-Gayan’s finest wines are usually their Cotes du Rhone and Gigondas.Importer: A Christopher Cannan Selection, various American importers including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
