Among the Premiers Crus in Beaune - the specialty of this house - there is a massive, medium- to full-bodied, tannic, backward, hugely impressive Beaune Les Marconnets. I would give this wine at least 2-5 years in the cellar before drinking it. For example, the 1979s from this domaine are just beginning to drink beautifully, when many other producers' wines are starting to fall apart. The same can be said for the 1972s from Madam Choppin. Her wines from that vintage took nearly 15 years to reach maturity. This is a serious estate making very traditional, old-style red burgundies that merit more attention.
